What is private hire taxi insurance?
Private hire insurance provides cover for licensed drivers who carry pre-booked passengers in return for payment. Private hire insurance is sometimes called taxi insurance, minibus insurance or PCO insurance — it’s specifically for people who drive passengers for a living.

What is public hire taxi insurance?
Public hire insurance is essential for all vehicles licensed as a Hackney Carriage. It’s also known as black cab insurance. Public hire insurance offers similar cover to private hire insurance, but the main difference is that it covers taxis that can be hailed down by customers on the street, or picked up at a taxi rank.

Depending on the level of cover, taxi insurance can insure you, your vehicle, your passengers, plus third-party people and their property.

In Ireland, we only offer fully comprehensive protection. Here’s what’s included:

• Personal driving, private hire work, and food and parcel delivery.
• Costs for causing damage to other vehicles or property up to €5m.
• Your legal liability for causing death or injury to other people.
• Public liability cover up to €5m.
• Loss, damage or theft of your vehicle and its spare parts.
• Windscreen repair or replacement (excess €50).
• Audio, communication and navigation equipment (excess €400).

Yes. Our all-in-one taxi insurance covers you when carrying passengers, delivering food or parcels, and using your vehicle for personal use.

Please note: Parcel delivery is only covered by our 30-day policies. If you have an annual policy, you’re not covered to deliver parcels.

You can choose to buy taxi insurance by the month or the year:

If you can say yes to the points below, then our taxi insurance could be right for you:

• You have a Transport Ireland taxi licence.
• You live and work in Ireland.
• You have a full Irish driving licence.
• Your vehicle has 9 seats or fewer (including the driver’s seat).
• You’re 21–75 years old.
• You’ve had no more than 3 at-fault claims and/or more than 4 non-fault claims in the last 3 years

Please note: Taxi drivers can drop passengers off in Northern Ireland but can’t collect passengers there.
